About Dothan, AL - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Dothan, Alabama is situated approximately 20 miles west of the Georgia state line and 16 miles north of Florida. Its name is Biblical and is derived from Genesis 37:17, where it says, "Let us go to Dothan." The municipality serves as the main transportation and commercial hub for a considerable fraction of southeastern Alabama, southwest Georgia, and nearby portions of Florida. The collective population for the whole Dothan metropolitan area is about 150,000. Its nearness to the Florida panhandle, fertile soil, beautiful weather and friendly people have attracted tourists and new residents for years.
The town is often referred to as "The Peanut Capital of the World" since roughly a quarter of the U.S. peanut crop is produced close by, with much of it being processed in the city. The area’s peanut crop is so important to the residents that the nearby town of Enterprise actually has a statue commemorating the boll weevil. Why? Because many generations ago, settlers came to this area for the fertile soil and great weather so that they could establish farms. When the boll weevil destroyed their cotton crops, the locals were forced to diversify their farms and “think outside of the box” and began to grow many new crops, including peanuts. Since then, peanuts have become one of the area’s most important exports. The boll weevil is credited with making this area what it is today.
Why move here? This town is one of the region’s most progressive cities. The area offers a mild winter, beautiful spring, summer and autumn, low property taxes, health care amenities, great educational opportunities, shopping, dining and entertainment. Why do business here? The strategic location, easy access to Georgia and Florida, trained work force, sound and diversified economy, first rate educational institutions and a pro-business tax structure make this a top consideration for locals looking for a place to start a business.
