About Marianna, FL - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Marianna was founded in 1828. It was initially settled by a Scottish entrepreneur who named the town after his wife, Mary and her friend Anna. The combination name was Marianna. It was platted along the Chipola River and the entrepreneur, Mr. Scott Beverege had made a great investment. Between the river and the beautiful climate, the area was very attractive to farmers who soon heard of the fertile soil and beautiful weather. Many plantation owners from North Carolina, and other southern states, relocated to the area. Mr. Beverege’s foresight was certainly good.
There are about 6,000 residents today spread out in about 3,000 households. There are around 1,400 families living in the city. The racial makeup of the city is diverse and, with about half white people, another 40% or so African American and also small representations of other races from Latin America and Asia. It is a small, but thriving, community which depends on its cultural diversity and amazing people in order to grow and progress in modern times. Walking around town, it is not hard to see why the locals love their community so much. The beautiful weather attracts families, and the slow pace as well as awesome weather are great for retirees.
Young people are attracted by Chipola College, which offers dual-enrollment classes for high school youths as well as offering 9 bachelor's degrees in a variety of programs. Students can also earn post graduate degrees from Troy State University, University of Florida, University of West Florida, and Florida State University – all though Chipola College. The nice weather and awesome educational opportunities make this a nice place for a college student who is looking for a low-key campus with small classes.
